UK trade key to jobs
ALMOST a quarter of all employment in Scotland is linked to trade with the rest of the UK, according to experts at the Fraser of Allander Institute.
Research commissioned by the UK Government showed that in 2013 there were 528,707 jobs in Scotland that were supported by exports to other parts of Britain — compared to 125,206 linked to exports to the rest of the European Union.
Scottish secretary David Mundell said the figures “demonstrate clearly the value of the UK market”.
