-

FIFE Provost Jim Leishman t ook t o t he skies to open the annual Links Market.

He was one of thousands who flocked t o Kirkcaldy’s Promenade for the start of the six-day carnival.

After cutting the ribbon he was ushered onboard the “Air” ride, a pendulum that slingshots occupants 100ft skywards while spinning them from side to side.

“That was fantastic,” he said as he stepped off.

The return of the market hasn’t have been welcomed by everyone, with motorists reporting long delays as a consequence of diversions put in place in the west end of the town.

With t he Esplanade closed between Charlotte Street and the Morrisons intersection, drivers are being diverted via Nicol Street, Abbotshall Road and Pratt Street.
