Workshops to help find career paths
YOUNG people in Dundee are being invited to a series of employability workshops to help them find opportunities.
The workshops are part of an event at Skills Development Scotland’s (SDS) centre based in the Royal Exchange Building in Panmure Street on Wednesday.
Beckie Obro from the SDS careers team said: “The event is the perfect opportunity for youngsters to talk to employers, training providers and SDS careers staff to ask questions and get the information they need to help inform their choices for the future.
“It’s aimed at young people from across Dundee who are thinking about their future and looking for more information on jobs and employment support opportunities.
“We hope this event will have a big turnout as it is such a great opportunity for the young people of Dundee to network with key people.
“This is the chance to learn more about the opportunities and apprenticeships they are interested in and for advice and guidance from SDS careers staff.”
On the day young people will meet training providers who support Modern Apprenticeships and Employability Fund initiatives as well as youth groups.
The workshops offer opportunities to speak to a host of employment support agencies including Barnardo’s, Rathbone and Learn Direct.
There will also be the chance to find out more about work-based learning opportunities and apprenticeship vacancies in the local area.
Last year there were more than 25,500 new Modern Apprenticeship opportunities across Scotland with more than 80 different types available in hundreds of jobs.
From financial services and healthcare to construction and IT, each apprenticeship is developed by industry to suit their needs.
This means that apprentices can build valuable work experience from day one and gain an accredited qualification which is recognised by industry.
Full details about the workshops — which run between 1pm-4pm — are available on SDS’s Dundee Facebook page or by calling 01382 495050.
