Campaign to raise stroke awareness
DUNDEE House lit up in purple to mark the Stroke Association’s Make May Purple campaign.
The annual event is all about encouraging communities to get involved in something purple to raise awareness of stroke.
Andrea Cail, Scotland director of the Stroke Association, said she hoped the effort would motivate the public to help them “conquer stroke”.
She added: “Stroke happens in an instant and changes people’s lives forever.
“It is Scotland’s third-biggest killer and leading cause of disability.
“The Stroke Association wants to prevent strokes and help those who have had strokes get the support they need.
“Those who support Make May Purple by doing something purple to raise awareness of stroke are making a difference.
“We are delighted that Dundee City Council showed its support by lighting Dundee House in purple on May 1.”
Iconic buildings across Scotland will be lit up in purple throughout the month, including The Kelpies and Marischal College in Aberdeen.
“We want people who see these stunning sights to be motivated to do something purple to help us raise awareness and conquer stroke,” said Andrea.
Jennifer Gall, secretary of Dundee Speakability stroke group, called on people in the area to contact the group for help with communication.
She said: “Dundee Speakability wants to help people who have a stroke-related communication difficulty.
“It’s a group where people support each other and share experiences.
“We also take part in activities and projects, which are great fun.”
