Glad to have hard-to-heat house warm

-

I AM sure if Ron C. lived in a hardto-heat house he would not be sad to see the stonework covered up.

My daughter lives in one of the recently insulated flats off the Hilltown. With heating on full throughout the winter, the flat was still very, very cold. Now, with the proper insulation, she feels there is barely a need to have the heating on. She states that if there are three people in the living room then just the body heat warms the room.

You may be sad to see the old stonework being covered, but people who have had the misery of paying through the nose for heating and still being cold are over the moon.

You called it “good stonework” — I think you are trying to preserve memories of your childhood instead of living in the real world.

Regarding the housing crisis, are you aware the SNP government has increased funding to tackle housing problems from £6.3m to £10.6m in 2016/17 alone?

There are new houses being built in Lochee, Alexander Street, Fintry Drive, Mill o’ Mains, to name but a few. Under the Labour administration there were no council houses built in Dundee in 20 years.

And as regards smart meters — around £6 will be incorporated into each bill annually. A very small price to pay.

Evidence shows homeowners with smart meters are much more aware of how much they spend on heating for an hour while they go out with the dog etc. They are actually turning the heating off now — whereas before the meters they didn’t know the true cost so didn’t bother. Good job well done I say.

D. Thomson.
