Riverside out but not disgraced

-

RIVERSIDE CSC’S run in the Direct Soccer sponsored North of Tay Cup came to an end in Thursday’s semi-final against Midlands AFA highfliers Douglas Amateurs.

A tight first half ended goalless though Douglas struck an absolute cracker almost immediately from the restart.

A second followed within two minutes and, despite Riverside going three behind, they rallied and had t he better of the l ast 20 minutes, scoring to give them hope as the game tailed off.

Fine goalkeeping and the woodwork prevented them from pushing Douglas to the end, though the 3-1 scoreline shows the progress made by Riverside in getting this far in the district’s premier cup competition.

Doc’s Hibernia and Hilltown Hotspurs look to be in a two-horse race for the Premier League title with Doc’s now leading by only two points, though Hilltown have a match in hand.

Doc’s advantage at the top took a blow when they lost 2-0 against DC Athletic, who can still match the top teams in the league.

Matters could have been even worse for Doc’s, who have crashed out of the cups, were it not for a last-minute winner against Dryburgh CC on Saturday edging the points in a 3-2 tussle.

Hilltown struggled in midweek to get past DUSC, scoring both goals in the dying minutes in a 2-1 win.

At the weekend, they found the going easier against a short-handed Cannon Fodder.

Hilltown romped home 9-1 with James Gallacher netting Fodder’s consolation.

FC Kettledrum look on course for the Balgay Bar First Division title.

They are top after an 11-0 midweek win over Wellbeat then a 5-4 win over Park Tool.

Only two will go up from the First Division automatically and Fintry Rovers’ 4-2 loss to Club 83 puts them into fourth.

A brace from Ryan Whyte and one each from Shaun Williamson and Scott Reilly, gave the Clubbie three points.

Monifieth Hurricanes’ midweek loss to DK Raiders went unpunished and Monifieth remain in the play-off place.

In the Trident Trophies Second Division, eyes are on tonight’s cup final at Glenesk where Cairdy Thistle face up to FC Menzieshill.

Stobswell have wrapped up the title and, with three games remaining, are focusing on maintaining their 100% league win record.

FC Menzieshill look to have the advantage in making second, needing one point from their two remaining matches to gain promotion.

Their 5-2 win over RNL Dundee keeps them in third, though they can be caught by Charleston who have a game in hand.

Charleston’s 5-0 win over Dundee Central keeps the pressure on the team above them.

It could go down to their head to head record, which RNL hold the advantage in.
