Nine-man Dokens reach semi-finals

- BY JUNICUS

NORTH End produced the result of the day in the East of Scotland Cup when they travelled to Whitburn and came away with a penalty shoot-out win, despite finishing the tie with nine men.

The Dokens made a blistering start and deservedly took a 2-0 the lead through a Dayle Robertson brace.

But the home side came storming back to level matters after Craig Scrimgeour and Pat Martin were sent off for the Dokens.

However, with a semi-final spot beckoning, North End held their nerve and went on to win 4-3 on penalties.

Carnoustie made their exit from the competition despite a late fightback against Bonnyrigg.

The visitors were in control for most of the first half and deserved their 2-0 lead thanks to strikes from Ruraridh Donaldson and Adam Nelson. It looked all over when Wayne McIntosh headed a third in 67 minutes.

However, Ryan Roche pulled one back with six minutes to go then, in the final minute, Scott Gray deflected in a second but it came too late to make a difference.

In the Premier League, Downfield picked up two red cards as they went down 4-1 to visiting Arniston.

It couldn’t have started better for the home side with Kieron Sturock giving them the lead after 30 seconds but an own goal plus James Thomson being sent off for handling in the box saw Arniston convert a penalty and go in at the interval ahead.

The Spiders were then two men down when Jordan Timmons was sent off in the second half and, not surprisingly, the visitors took advantage and scored another two to run out comfortable winners.

Violet are still in there battling for their lives after a 2-1 victory over Haddington.

They went in at half-time two ahead thanks to goals from Ryan Dignan and Craig Batchelor and, even though Paul Devlin pulled one back in the second half, Ralph Henderson’s men held out to take the points.

Tayport lost 2-1 at Sauchie.
