Bluebells claim local bragging rights

-

LOCHEE United won the bragging rights as they came out on top 2-0 in their Super League clash against Broughty Athletic.

The opening goal came in nine minutes when Scott McComiskie took a free-kick from the corner of the box and it beat everyone and ended up in the corner of the net.

The visitors came storming back, with former Thomson Park midfielder Brian Clark and Grant Lawson going close.

However, Lochee always looked the more likely to score and stretched their lead in 35 minutes. It was a former Broughty player who did the damage with Kevin Buchan knocking in a Dougie Cameron cross at the near post.

The Fed worked hard to cut the deficit in the second half but the Bluebells continued to look the more likely and a third goal almost came when efforts from Paddy Deane and Greg Kirk hit the bar.

The win now puts George Shields’ side three points ahead of their Whitton Park rivals.

Jeanfield won 2-0 at Fauldhouse and now require just four points from their four remaining games to ensure safety.

It was well deserved with the goals from Daniel Kelly after 20 minutes and a cracking Robbie Holden counter 10 minutes later.

RESULT of the week — Well done to NORTH END for battling past Whitburn to reach the East of Scotland Cup semi-finals.
