’Well boss: Accies clash biggest game in years

-

MOTHERWELL manager Stephen Robinson challenged his players to put everything on the line in their high-stakes Lanarkshire derby after another home defeat left them in the relegation play-off spot.

Robinson’s side looked to have slightly more threat about them in a tense game than a Ross County team which had Liam Boyce and Alex Schalk suspended and lost Ryan Dow to a chest problem inside 30 minutes.

But a bizarre decision by substitute Zak Jules to keep the ball in play on the by-line rather than accept a goal kick put his team in trouble in the 72nd minute and Christopher Routis scored the only goal for the visitors seconds later.

Motherwell had nine first-half corners but failed to seriously trouble Scott Fox from any of them and Robinson knows they have to make chances count on Saturday against Hamilton, who are four goals better off than their neighbours in the Ladbrokes Premiership table.

Robinson said: “We have to make sure it clicks now and that’s people wanting to put their head on the line — when crosses come in, just getting on to things.

“That’s what we have to do this week, there is no blame game we are all in this together, the fans again were right behind the team.

“We are asking them to come out against Hamilton in their numbers and drive us forward, which I know they will. And we are asking the players to respond to that, which they will.”

Robinson added: “There are three games to go and it’s still very much in our hands.

“The game becomes a huge game for this football club, probably the biggest since the last play-off game.”
