ARBROATH manager Dick Campbell has dedicated his team’s League Two title win to his friend Sandy Strang and his older brother, Peter, both of whom have passed away.

Sandy, like Dick, well known as an after-dinner speaker, died l ast week, while it is six years since Army captain Peter passed away.

As the dust settled on Arbroath’s draw at Stirling, which sealed their League Two title win, Dick said: “This i s for Sandy and Peter. Peter was on my shoulder today.”

Dick also praised his backroom staff of t win brother Ian, John Ritchie and John Young.

“We a r e the oldest management team on the go,” he added.

“John Ritchie is 70, John Young 67 and myself and Ian are 63.

“We have more than 200 years i n senior football between us.

“I signed 14 players in the summer and we just got better and better.

“We had the best away form in the league, the best defensive record i n the league and we were the second-highest scorers.

“There is not one bad player at this club, they are all good players and Arbroath is a good football club.

“The second week i n January we were 11 points off top place but I always had confidence we could pull that back.

“And our supporters have been magnificent.

“At Stirling, we had around 1,500 cheering us on and the backing we have had throughout the season has been fantastic.

“I was close speechless at Stirling.

“The game was no classic and Stirling could’ve won it.

“We didn’t play particularly well but we clinched the title.” to
