Men ‘had knives in street’ after attack

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

POLICE have launched an investigation after a stabbing at a block of flats.

A man was attacked i n Kemnay Gardens in the Douglas area of Dundee.

There were reports of a disturbance between several people and men walking down the street carrying knives as the incident unfolded.

One onlooker said it was “like an episode of The Bill” as police and an ambulance descended on the area at about 5pm yesterday.

Officers remained inside a block of flats today guarding a house and scenes of crime investigators were expected to attend to survey the scene.

A window in the block was smashed and there was blood on a wall in the close.

One local man, who didn’t want to be named, told the Tele he saw two men “carrying knives and vodka bottles” after the incident.

Meanwhile David Johnson, 72, whose house overlooks the flats, saw the attack unfold.

He said: “I initially saw three men and two girls involved in a fight outside.

“The men were fighting and the girls were screaming their heads off.

“One of the guys seemed to be getting the better of the other two.

“They ran off down the path towards the shops at the foot of the path at Huntly Square. “Someone must have called the police because they arrived pretty quickly.

“The whole area was cordoned off including the path.

“You couldn’t get up it at all. The next thing an ambulance arrived and stopped at the foot of the path.

“They seemed to put someone into the back of the ambulance.”

A man who lives in the block — who declined to be named — said there was a significant police presence when he got home just after 5pm and he heard someone had been stabbed.

He said: “There was police everywhere.”

One witness added: “It was like an episode of The Bill.”

Police were unable to confirm today whether the victim had suffered any serious injuries and no details were available on his condition at the time of going to press.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland is carrying out inquiries into a serious assault which happened in Kemnay Gardens, Dundee, yesterday at about 4.50pm.”
