Shops staying in town
Reassurance over frozen food retailer and bookies
PROPERTY chiefs have moved to reassure residents of an Angus town that they won’t be losing two of their main retail outlets.
Signs were put up on the Farmfoods store in the centre of Monifieth advertising the site as a development opportunity — and the site is up for let.
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes, which is nearby, is being advertised for sale via agents Graham & Sibbald.
However, the firm said that neither retailer will be leaving town.
The company’s Grant Thomson said that the adverts had been a formality as the site is now under new ownership.
He said: “Nobody will be leaving the site. Both of the shops are still going to be there and running as normal.
“The building has been sold along with them.
“It’s simply a case that new owners have come in and taken over the building.
“They won’t be leaving the centre, so residents do not have to worry about that.
“It’s a standard property investment sale.”
Elsewhere in the town, Monifieth Parish Church in Panmure Street is also under offer after being put up for sale.
However, Graham & Sibbald said there were no details on what a potential developer planned to do with that building.
Newly elected Monifieth councillor Beth Whiteside said she was pleased that the town wasn’t losing two prime retail outlets.
She said: “I hadn’t heard anything about the sale of the premises.
“Obviously, I’m very supportive of making sure the shops remain viable in the town and anything that can be done for keeping them busy must be welcomed.
“I’m not up to date on the situation with the church.
“But once we complete our rigorous induction as councillors, I’ll be working with the council and council officers to see if everything is being done to attract investment to the area.”
