Design skills win cash for students and charity

-

CANCER Research is £200 better off thanks to the design skills of three D&A College students.

Cherie Gilruth, 30, Sofie Tait, 18, and Ewan McDonald, also 18, were awarded £200 for a charity of their choice when they submitted interior design plans for the Arbroath-based company Phillips Parry Ltd.

John Phillips, of the website design firm approached students on the HNC 3D design course at Gardyne Campus, invited them to take part in a competition.

The aim was to design the interior of his company’s new office premises in the Harbour Visitor Centre.

With cash prizes for each of the first three designs plus a donation to the charity of the winner’s choice, John soon had a number of designs to choose from.

After careful consideration, Cherie’s work was picked, with Sofie taking the runners-up spot and Ewan being placed third.

John visited the college to present the students with their prize money and the charity donation.

He explained: “The standard of the work was exceptional from all the students. However, given the level of detail that Cherie had supplied, we found her to be the overall winner.

“Phillips Parry would like to thank all concerned from D&A College for their time and support, especially the students who took part.”

With £300 of prize money to be shared among the trio — £150 for first place, £100 for second and £50 for third — they were delighted.
