Superb term for Angus sides

-

JOHN Christison has j ust stepped down as Arbroath chairman, relinquishing the post on a high note after his side had secured the League Two title.

The club’s manager, Dick Campbell, was also named League Two Manager of the Year and John feels that put the seal on not only a great season for Arbroath but also a great term for the Angus clubs.

Forfar j oined Arbroath i n being promoted from League Two and Brechin clinched a place in the Championship.

Montrose had a good season, too, in League Two with J o h n s t a t i n g : “I t ’s b e e n fantastic, absolutely superb for football in Angus.

“I’m delighted for Dick that he won the League Two manager’s award. It’s great for him and an honour for the club.

“The other clubs doing well, too, is fantastic.

“There is a friendly rivalry among all four of us and, hopefully, we can keep the success going.”

Mike Caird is the new Arbroath chairman and John said: “This is a great honour for Mike. He has been about the club for many years and I’m sure he’ll do well.”

BRECHIN boss Darren Dods has revealed he was determined not to jinx his side’s promotion chances by putting aside any thoughts of planning an after-match party.

The Glebe gaffer had been caught out once before when he was a player at Forfar two seasons ago when Dick Campbell’s side were odds on to win promotion to the Championship.

He said: “Brechin were big underdogs in both games so it was a fantastic achievement by everyone to win promotion, especially after a nerve-wracking penalty shoot-out. We hadn’t even spoken about promotion before Saturday.”
