In this instance that means against an Accies side he believes is significantly better t han t heir top-flight troubles this season would suggest.
“Obviously, Hamilton haven’t had a great year but you are talking about a team that’s been established in the Premiership for a few season now and has done well.
“I look through their team and I see some good players.
“For me the team from the higher division in these play-offs has to be the favourite.
“I think there is a gap between the leagues. How big it is exactly is hard to say but I don’t think it is that big and any Premiership team can’t just turn up against a Championship team and expect to win.
“I’m sure Hamilton won’t think like that and we certainly believe we are good enough to win over these two games.”
A 10-game unbeaten run to this point gives weight to that assertion and Dillon feels the positive mood at Tannadice right now means Ray McKinnon’s team is in a good place.
“Even when things haven’t gone like we wanted, like not winning the league or finishing second, we’ve just kept going and focusing on the next challenge.
“That’s got us this far, I believe without playing our very best, and I think if we step up another level we can be back where we feel Dundee United should be.”
