Man ‘took the law in his own hands’

-

A MAN broke into a woman’s flat and stole her TV and hair straighteners.

Ian Gray, 25, of Lily Walker Centre, Ann Street, was jailed for six months at Dundee Sheriff Court.

The court heard Gray associates with a neighbour of his victim Wendy Connelly, who lives in a flat at Bonnethill Court, Hilltown Terrace.

Fiscal depute Vicki Bell said: “Another resident within the block heard l oud banging, sounding like a door being kicked, and then heard the sound of a plug being dragged across the floor.

“The resident saw the accused and saw the front door to the complainer’s flat was lying open and contacted police.

“Police reviewed CCTV and saw the accused carrying a large flat screen TV which was reported stolen.”

Officers knocked on the associate’s door and saw the TV lying on the floor unplugged with its control next to it, which had also been reported stolen.

There was another TV on a unit which was plugged in.

A Freeview box and hair straighteners were also reported as stolen but were not found.

Gray’s solicitor Jim Laverty said: “He had a disagreement with the complainer about being owed money and rather than go to the small claims court, he decided to take the law into his own hands.”

Gray admitted breaking into a flat at Bonnethill Court and stealing a TV, control, Freeview box and straighteners.
