- BY JAMES SIMPSON AND SHEANNE MULHOLLAND

A DUNDEE man is set to stand trial accused of head-butting a woman and repeatedly striking a door with a cordless drill.

Alexander Hill, 32, of Woodside Avenue, denies behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on May 26.

Hill denies that at a property on Woodside Avenue he repeatedly struck the front door with a cordless drill, damaging the panels and surrounding glass.

He further denies assaulting Alison Dignan by seizing her by the shoulders and head-butting her, causing her to fall to the ground, and repeatedly striking her on the head and body with a chair to her injury at the same location and on the same date.

He also denies behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing, threatening occupants there with violence and attempting to force open a door, again at t he same location and on the same date.

Locals spoke of seeing a number of emergency service vehicles in the “quiet” street on the day of the alleged incident with officers remaining in the area for up to an hour.

Elise Robinson, 20, a student who has lived in the area for more than a year, said she was “surprised” by the police presence.

She said: “Two police vans and a police car arrived — the ambulance followed shortly after.

“They were here for about an hour — we were surprised to see the activity.”

Fellow resident Gordon Scott, 75, said officers came to his door shortly after 8pm.

He said: “One constable came to the door and asked if I’d heard a commotion.”

Another resident, who asked not be named, said: “The police came along Woodside Terrace, we’ve heard some neighbours had heard shouting but what exactly went on no one was sure.”

A police spokesman confirmed that a 32-year-old man had been charged with a number of offences following an alleged disturbance in Woodside Avenue on Friday.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call from police at 19.18 to attend an address at Woodside Avenue.

“One crew attended and a woman in her forties was taken to Ninewells Hospital.”

The trial is set to start on September 4 with an intermediate diet on August 15.
