‘Boltcutters’ used to steal generator

- BY STEVEN RAE AND DAWN MORRISON

The blue piece of equipment was stolen from the West Development site at the junction of Victoria Street and Hill Street in Monifieth.

It is understood boltcutters were used to access the site.

Police have issued an appeal for anyone who has any information about the theft to get in touch.

Allan Gibb, a joiner on the West Developments building site, warned anyone who is offered tools or equipment for sale to be wary of where they may have come from.

He said: “We arrived in the morning and the padlock had been cut through with boltcutters. Whoever took it planned it out by the looks of it. “The generator is worth about £3,600. “We’ve been on the site about four months now.

“I’ve been in the trade for years and been with West Developments for seven years and this has never happened before.

“Police have told us that they have no indication who did it.

“I’ll be keeping my eyes on things like Gumtree to see if the generator pops up for sale.If anyone is offered any tools or equipment they should be wary that what they are offered could have been stolen. It’s very rare that a tradesman sells his tools.”

West Developments is currently building new homes at the site.

The privately owned and operated building company, which specialises in small to medium private residential projects, is based in Dundee.

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland is appealing for information after a blue diesel generator valued at £3,600 was stolen from a building site at the junction of Victoria Street and Hill Street, Monifieth, sometime between 5.30pm on Thursday May 25 and 8.10am on Friday May 26.

“Anyone with any information that may be useful should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting CR/13454/17 or speak to any police officer.

“Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

THIEVES who stole a £3,600 generator from a Tayside building site had “planned out” the crime, it’s been claimed.
