All signs point West!

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

This year’s WestFest, held at Magdalen Green, will be packed with live music, DJs, bars and stalls for its seventh year.

The annual free event, which started in 2010, has gained a massive following with more than 10,000 revellers attending in recent years.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s extravaganza, WestFest committee member Alan Wilson said everything was in place, but admitted it has been tough.

He added: “We are looking forward to another big Sunday but this year has been a big struggle.

“We’ve been in negotiations with police and the council in recent months to make sure we weren’t going to breach the local bylaw regarding the consumption of alcohol in open spaces.” been tolerated — the event has become a victim of its own success.

“It has been frantic organising this year’s event but everything is in place now for a brilliant day.”

Seven bands, including a mix of local acts, will take to the stage to ensure the fans aren’t disappointed.

Mr Wilson said he was “very pleased” with the line-up, which includes the Rise Kagona and his Jit Jive Band, Dundee’s Miami Vince and Bowie Night.

He added: “They should have the crowd rocking.”

Visitors to this year’s event are reminded that no alcoholic drinks are allowed to be brought into the green, with the Mr Wilson adding: “There are a number of bars in place offering reasonably priced drinks.

“The crowd has always been brilliant and the change in this year’s event is in no way a reflection that the crowd has misbehaved in previous years.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to this year’s event.”

ORGANISERS of one of Dundee’s biggest summer events say they are gearing up for a “brilliant day” — despite a struggle to get there.
