Call for traffic action
Dad’s plea after daughter knocked down by vehicle
A DUNDEE man has called for action after his daughter was knocked down by a car on her way to school.
Taylor Barrie, 14, had just left her family home on Ettrick Crescent in the Dryburgh area of Dundee when she was involved in a collision with a car.
Today her dad, Steven, 30, called for traffic calming measures to be put in place on the road to prevent a tragedy occurring.
He said: “She left then she came home again because she had forgotten her bus pass. After that I heard a loud bang and looked outside and saw her getting up off the ground.
“It was so frightening to see as a parent. It could have been so much worse — she has bruising and is a bit shaken up.
“It could have been so much worse, if she had been a second earlier then she could have been knocked into the air.”
Taylor, who attends Blairgowrie High, was taken to Ninewells Hospital A&E and checked over as a precaution but was able to return home.
Steven, who is a laser tattoo remover, said that neighbours have been campaigning for traffic calming measures to be installed on the road.
He said: “Something needs to be done about the speed people are going at on the street.
“Everyone used to always say that it would take a kid being knocked down and now this has happened.
“Something needs to be done because this could have been so much worse. People go at speed and it is a blind bend.
“People have been trying to get speed bumps put in and I think that this shows that it needs to happen.
“They have been in contact with the council and elected representatives in the past.”
Steven added that he fears for the safety of other children in the street if action isn’t taken to slow down road users.
A Dundee City Council spokeswoman said: “We will consider this through our accident investigation procedures.”
