ROUND-UP Skipper in fine form as ’Shire ease to victory

With conditions improving all the ti me, it took a discipline­d bowling display from Forfarshir­e to record the win as Carlton were dismissed for 126. Skipper Umair Mohammed continued his fine form with the ball taking 3-24.

Aberdeensh­ire came out on top against SMRH at Mannofield in a tight finish despite a brilliant display from the visitors’ Sanji Pillay.

Chasing the Dons total of 149-9, Pillay scored 81 but received little support, with only one other batsman reaching double figures as they ended on 135 all out with Craig Shorten picking up three wickets.

In the only other game in the Eastern Division, Watsonians hammered Glenrothes at Myreside.

Once again the Chalmers brothers Ewan (72) and Andy (46) were the backbone of the Watsonians innings as they racked up an i mpressive 257-6.

In reply the Glens never looked comfortabl­e against the strong bowling line-up of the Edinburgh side and were dismissed for only 104 with Dewald Nel taking 3-20.

In the Western Premier Division, Ayr hammered last year’s champions Clydesdale by 10 wickets at New Cambusdoon.

The Mcelnea brothers, Scott and Andy, both took four wickets as Clydesdale were shot out for only 115. Ayr then cruised to victory without losing a wicket, New Zealander Michael Papps unbeaten on 75.

Uddingston moved up to second place in the league after they got the better of Kelburne at Bothwell Castle.

Gavin Bradley top scored with 51 in Uddingston’s 152-8 before the Paisley side were dismissed for only 99.

All the Western Championsh­ip games fell victim to the weather.

SCOTLAND’S World Cricket League clash against Namibia will be completed today after rain brought an early end to proceeding­s in Edinburgh.

Richie Berrington made 110, his third List A century, as the hosts posted 268-5 i n an innings reduced to 43 overs by the weather.

Berrington hit four sixes and five fours in his 90-ball stay, with Preston Mommsen, back in t he fold after a brief retirement, making an unbeaten 49 in support.
