‘Lots of highs’ for Carnoustie boss

-

FOR the first time i n a number of seasons Carnoustie escaped the agonies of battling relegation.

However, it didn’t look good for the Gowfers after a disastrous start which saw them fail to pick up a win in their first seven games.

Recovering from that early-season dip proved the side had “real character” insists manager Alan McSkimming.

He said: “There were lots of highs in our season.”

“We showed real character to hit back after a poor start and our unbeaten run over a six-month period said it all.

“Our minimum requirement for the season was to retain our league status and we did that with five games to spare.

“We will look to improve on our 11th-place finish next season.”

The Gowfers had mixed fortunes in the cup competitions.

They reached the quarter-final of the GA Cup before losing to Tayport and they ran Bonnyrigg close in the third round of the East of Scotland Cup with the Lothian outfit winning a thriller 3-2 at Laing Park.

They kicked off their Scottish Cup campaign with a 2-1 win at Kello but went out in the next round, going down 1-0 at Petershill.

NORTH End have placed striker Pat Martin on the transfer list. Interested parties should contact Ross Lunan on 07944 231046.

TRANENT won the DJ Laing East of Scotland Cup at Bathgate on Saturday, beating Bonnyrigg 4-1 on penalties after the sides had drawn 1-1 in regulation time.
