Early goal sets Farmington up for fine win

-

FORFAR Farmington Ladies defeated Buchan 4-0 in a Scottish Women’s Premier League Division Two game at Station Park.

It took Farmington only 16 seconds to take the lead through Cheryl Kilcoyne.

A Nicola Davidson spot-kick in 36 minutes made it 2-0 with a Fiona Ritchie own goal in 55 minutes putting the home side three goals up.

Danni McGinley then completed the Farmington scoring seven minutes from time.

The Forfar side stay nine points clear of second placed Motherwell at the top of the league as they seek a quick return to the top division after being relegated last season.

Against second bottom Buchan they had a dream start when new signing from Jeanfield Swifts, McGinley, burst clear on the right and fired in a low cross which was bundled home by Cheryl Kilcoyne.

It took the home side a while to add to their lead.

However, on the 36 minute mark, Kilcoyne was brought down by the visiting keeper and captain Nicola Davidson stepped up to fire home the penalty to give Farmington a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw almost one way traffic towards the Buchan goal.

Ten minutes in, Farmington were three ahead when Buchan’s Fiona Ritchie sliced a cross high into her own net.

Forfar had the ball in the net again shortly afterwards but Megan McCarty’s header didn’t count as she had strayed offside.

The final goal of the afternoon came from McGinley in 83 minutes, the new girl twisting inside a crowded penalty area before shooting home from 16 yards.

Next up for Farmington is a visit to their nearest challengers, as they go to second-placed Motherwell this coming weekend before the league goes summer break. into
