Police swoop on multi in Dundee

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

POLICE swooped on a Dundee street today after reports of a man swinging between windows on the fourth floor of a multi-storey.

Emergency services were called to Elders Court, in the Lochee area of Dundee, just after 5am today.

A massive presence of police — which included three cars and two vans — as well the Scottish ambulance service swarmed on the street, with the man dangling precariously from a window ledge threatening to jump.

The area was cordoned off as a small crowd gathered outside to watch the “scary” incident.

Around 8am, he started to swing between the windows and was later seen sitting on a window ledge while police spoke to him (pictured right).

The man could clearly be heard shouting to someone inside the flat as he continued to sit on the ledge.

James Fox, 43, who lives next door to where the incident took place, today spoke of his shock at seeing a heavy police activity outside the multi.

He continued: “Loads of police and ambulance started arriving.

“It’s horrible to see the man and knowing he might try to jump.

“I think police have been talking to him for several hours trying to persuade him to get back inside the flat. It is horrible seeing anything like this happening here.”

John Mitchell, who lives in nearby Ancrum Court, said: “This is very scary and upsetting.”

Another resident of Elders Court said she got up at 5am to make coffee and saw all the activity outside.

The woman added: “He was there for several hours.

“I heard voices and music coming from the flat all night and then I discovered that the man was threatening to jump.”

The multi itself was completely cordoned off and access into and out of Elders Court was restricted.

Police were still on the scene at 9.30am.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said there were concerns for a man but could not provide any further information at the time of going to press.
