Mum-to-be was left ‘shaken and upset’

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

A PREGNANT woman has told how she was left “terrified” after being targeted by stonethrowing youngsters.

Laurie Falconer, 30, who is eight months pregnant, told the Tele she got the fright of her life when a stone hit the window of her car.

She said: “I was driving along Cairnie Loan in Arbroath when the next thing I knew, a stone was thrown at my car.

“I got a terrible fright — I was left shaken and upset after the incident. It was all the worse because I am eight months pregnant.”

Laurie said that after the stone hit her car she saw a group of children standing around.

She said: “I stopped and asked them what they thought they were doing — all I got was a mouthful of abuse from them.

“I reported the matter straight away to the police.

“Thank goodness I wasn’t hurt. I dread to think what could have happened. If I’d had to swerve and crashed, or if the stone had smashed through, it could have been much worse.”

Laurie said her car wasn’t damaged, adding her that biggest concern had been for her unborn baby.

She said: “If it had happened after my baby was born and she was sitting in the car she could have been badly hurt

“This was such a stupid thing to do but the kids responsible just didn’t seem to care.

“I heard later that other people in the area also had stones thrown at their cars. I think some people had their cars damaged.”

Police Scotland confirmed that officers were looking into reports of items being thrown at vehicles.

A spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information after two acts of reckless conduct whereby objects were thrown at moving cars in Arbroath on June 14.

“The first incident happened at 5.50pm at the level crossing at Wellgate/Orchard Street and a black VW Golf suffered minor damage to a rear window.

“A group of youths was seen to run off through Morrisons’ car park.

“The second incident happened at Burnside Drive at around at 8pm and a black Audi TT suffered damage to the paintwork.

“A group of youths ran off between Almerie Close and James Street.

“Officers are keen to trace the youths seen in the area of both incidents and would like to remind those who get involved in such reckless behaviour and may view it as a bit of harmless fun that they should consider the potential consequences of their actions.

“Anyone with any information to assist police with their inquiries regarding these incidents should contact Tayside Division on 101, or contact the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
