City centre should be top priority

-

IT would appear property developer Tim Allan has some other agenda when he insists that these out-of-town developments be urgently approved by Dundee City Council.

Dundee must maintain its irreplaceable land areas for future industrial development and it is obvious that industry cannot be located in the city centre.

Of course, Dundee needs to create more jobs but not more and more places to eat, and certainly not in these areas out of town.

We Dundonians are proud of our city centre and Lidl, Costa, Starbucks, Domino’s & co should look to update their existing facilities and / or locate in the city centre first.

Only when the centre is flourishing should these companies who are supporting and promoting the city centre be allowed to develop in out-of-town areas.

The projected multitude of visitors to the city, attracted by the new V&A, will want stroll around Bonnie Dundee streets, shopping and eating, and not have to take a bus up to Dunsinane Industrial Estate for a coffee.

It will also encourage Dundee and surrounding area residents to come into town, meet friends and even welcome our new visitors.

New jobs will then be created in the city centre and buildings refurbished, thus preserving our city for future generations.
