ROUND-UP Shock reverse for the Lichties at Glenrothes
Forfarshire recorded their third straight win in a row with a comfortable victory over Falkand at Mckay’s Forthill.
Missing a few regulars, Arbroath produced a rare poor batting performance to be dismissed for only 112 with Yasar Arafat and Afzal Shazad sharing seven wickets among them.
Calvin Burnett had topscored with 35 for Arbroath before a steady 44 from Ben Wilkinson helped the Glens to a four-wicket win.
Forfarshire came out on top against Falkland thanks to knocks of 74 from Rory Johnston and 58 by Chris Greaves.
On a slower-than-usual Forthill wicket, their patience was key to the Dundee side posting 212-4 at tea, with Scott Cameron also chipping in with a useful 31 not out.
Falkland also found runs hard to come by and, despite a half century from Harha Coorey, they were dismissed for 140 with Matt Walters taking 3-22.
The most exciting finish of the day came at Mannofield where Aberdeenshire and Grange produced a tie.
Chris Venske again showed his class for the Dons by making 110 in their total of 223-8.
In a nail-biting finale, Grange couldn’t just quite make it home with the teams tied on 223 to both claim five points each.
Carlton came out on top in an Edinburgh derby against Watsonians with Aussie Mike Herdman scoring 108 not out as Carlton posted 229-8.
Watsonians were always behind the required run rate and finished on 192-7 despite a half century from Brendan O’Connell.
The final game i n the division saw Heriot’s defeat SMRH by 52 runs.
Heriot’s total of 166 all out didn’t look great but SMRH were shot out for only 114.
In the Western Premier Division, Ferguslie lead the way after they defeated Greenock at Meikleriggs.
Ferguslie’s 275-7 always looked too much and so it proved as Greenock were restricted to 225-9.
Elsewhere there were wins for Ayr over East Kilbride, Poloc over Kelburne and Prestwick over Clydesdale.
In the Western Championship, West of Scotland continued their 100% record as they defeated Drumpellier.
Stirling stay second after a nine-wicket victory over St Michael’s.
IN yesterday’s Murgitroyd regional 20/20 finals day, Forfarshire booked their place at the national finals later in the season.
Both they and Arbroath had won their semi-final ties against Aberdeenshire and the Aberdeen CA select side respectively.
Scott Cameron claimed four wickets as Arbroath were restricted to 123 in their 20 overs before Matt Parker made the most of being dropped first ball by hitting 47 as Forfarshire eased home for the loss of only three wickets with time to spare.
ON a day where a couple of Tayside versus Fife matches were scheduled, Arbroath were knocked off the top of the CSL Eastern Premier Cricket Division on Saturday after they suffered a surprise defeat at Glenrothes.
