DUNDEEE City Aquatics swimmers, coaches and parents have had an extremely busy couple of weeks.

The squad headed to the Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh, to compete in the East District Open Championships, the final qualifying event for the National Championship meets.

Immediately afterwards, head coach David Haig travelled as part of the British Swimming Open Water Squad, to coach at a training and competition experience in Majorca, where the swimmers competed in 1.5, 5 and 10 kilometre sea races, against elite competition.

While this was taking place, 14-year-old Iona Macleod travelled as part of the Scottish Youth Development Squad to her first foreign competition. This was held in Porto.

In an open competition, Iona made finals in all the events she competed and won a bronze medal.

At the same time, a young squad, accompanied by development coach Lisa Houston, went to an East Kilbride Long Course meet, with Olivia Clarke, Maria Cabrelli and Scarlett Ferris all winning medals.

Ten of the club’s open water swimmers competed at the championships in Lochore Meadows, Fife, with open water coach Elise Methven.

This meet acted as the qualifier for the British Championships held near Sheffield in July. Six achieved qualification — Jack Dalgety, Gemma Dalgety, Lucy Fleming, Travis Davey, Eric Davey and Nicole Reynolds.
