Saints skipper feels Tam will be a big hit at United

-

played 156 games for Falkirk before then-Saints boss Steve Lomas brought him to McDiarmid Park where he made 105 appearances.

And he showed how cool he is under pressure when he lashed in the winning penalty in a Europa League spot-kick shootout win at McDiarmid against Lucerne.

That was another example of his dependable nature, a fact also not lost on Steven.

“Tam is the type of guy you like alongside you. He puts in a shift, organises and lets you know he’s there.

“There were times when he was in and out of the team but, when he was drafted in, he did a right good job.

“It would have been great if he had stayed at McDiarmid but he’s moved on — that’s football. United are a decent club. It’s where I started and now Tam has made the opposite trip.”

Scobbie’s leadership qualities were noted at an early age by then-Falkirk manager John Hughes, who predicted Scobbie would captain Falkirk, which he did, and that he has the qualities needed to be a manager.

One sport he didn’t excel at, though, was darts as Steven explains.

“I’ll miss beating Tam at darts but, like his football, he showed great character and did his best when in front of a dartboard.

“United have a complete package in Tam. Good, versatile player, fine character, super leader. He could be back at McDiarmid soon — for United in the Premiership.”
