Sweet treat from Ferry would rock

-

“OCH, you’re a good girl,” the woman in the bank queue said to me on Saturday.

Just imagine that for a moment. A woman you’ve never met, saying that to you.

I’ve written this column long enough to know that a stranger striking up a conversation usually means one thing — they read the Tele.

“I like that you see the good in Dundee. Give it a bit of a hard time when needed but you love Dundee, don’t you? I do too,” she added.

I remembered her words this week as I visited Blackpool for work.

Childhood memories came flooding back — of fairground rides, fish and chips by the sea, and sticks of rock that almost took your teeth out.

But like a proud parent always thinking of her child, I couldn’t stop thinking about Dundee — particularly Broughty Ferry.

It’s so pretty and such a draw, wouldn’t it be good to have a wee bit more of the Blackpool going on?

Don’t worry — I can almost see Ferry residents calling their solicitors to seek legal advice on how to stop “kiss me quick” hats being sold and bringing the place down.

Not tat and tack so much as cementing the Ferry’s place as a destination of fun.

We do so much so well — Castle Green, Broughty Ferry Castle, the centre’s shops — so how about a few sticks of Ferry Rock for visitors to take home and spread the word?

Come on, a wee bit of humour wouldn’t go amiss.
