Comedian Limmy

‘My last show here was really nice and relaxed’

- BY RYAN TUTE

Brian, better known as Limmy to his fans, returns to the City of Discovery on Sunday for his new book, That’s Your Lot.

The Glasgow man was last in Dundee in May and described the sell-out show as “really nice and relaxed” compared with one the night before in his home town where he got “heckled”.

The 42-year-old added: “I remember being heckled and thinking, ‘I can’t be bothered with this every night’.

“But the theatre at Dundee is great and I remember it being a really nice and relaxed atmosphere. It was a great show and it felt like I could be bothered again.”

His last Dundee show sold out in 45 minutes, so he has a real fondness for the city — a city he compares to a famous video game.

He said: “The first thing I think of when I think of Dundee is Grand Theft Auto with all the design and technology going on there, so I am looking forward to coming back on Sunday and seeing the people who turn out.”

As part of the show, Limmy will read stories to the crowd, while he will also be taking questions on anything and everything.

He added: “It’s been cracking so far. It’s a lot different to the Limmy live shows with all the characters, as there’s no real rehearsal involved. It’s just me reading to people but with question and answers i n between.

“I love the fan interaction, as I can just be myself and improvise.”

It’s been more than three years since his popular BBC Scotland sketch programme Limmy’s Show ended and after having other sitcoms rejected by the broadcaster, Limmy was keen to explore a book deal.

The author and comedian is happy with the response to the book since he started touring the UK.

He added: “This book is a wee bit more serious, a wee bit darker.

“I thought to myself that there didn’t need to be a punchline or a twist with every ending.

“Sometimes the story just ends and that’s part of the reason why it’s called That’s Your Lot.”

Despite being well known for his comedy, the Glaswegian has never shied away from opening up about mental health problems and alcohol misuse. Recently, he celebrated 13 years since he last touched a drop of booze. He added: “I never worry about talking about my private life in public. I often speak to fans at signings after my gigs who say thanks for talking about it. “It’s not because I give any advice or tell people things they don’t know, it’s just knowing that you are not the only one feeling down.” Looking towards the future, fans may be sad to hear there are no plans for a fourth series of Limmy’s Show, with the comedian adding: “I’m in talks for some other telly stuff, like a homemade sketch show based on the stuff I’ve done on Vine or YouTube with just me behind the camera. “I didn’t think I had the ideas or energy to do a fourth series. “I could imagine saying halfway through, ‘ Why have I agreed to this?’.” The show at Dundee Rep starts at 7.30pm.

COMEDIAN Brian Limond says his last show in Dundee rekindled his love of touring after getting heckled in his home town.
