Thefts: £2k reward

Motocross riders’ plea for help to find crooks

TWO Dundee motocross riders are offering a reward of £2,000 for the return of their stolen bikes.

Thieves were caught on CCTV by Douglas Sport Centre cameras stealing a Yamaha YZ 250 and a KTM 150 SX — valued at £6,500 each — from an address in Baldovie Terrace, Douglas.

The crooks, who also stole a pair of Gaerne riding boots worth £500, used Bryan Millar’s own tools to cut the brakes to his mother’s car before getting away.

Bryan, 31, and fellow rider Peter Reilly, 32, have now stumped up a cash reward for the safe return of the bikes.

Bryan said the pair would probably “give up” riding if this attempt to find the bikes failed to bring any new information.

Speaking today, Bryan said they had carried out numerous searches of the city after “possible” sightings on Clepington Road and near the Dighty Burn.

He added: “We were out looking for the bikes during the last week or so but we’ve scaled the searches right back. In most cases, I know when these bikes are stolen they generally aren’t returned. We’ve issued a £2,000 reward in the hope they are returned safely — I’d like to hope the bikes are still in Dundee.

“It could be the case they were stolen to order and are no longer in the city.

“There have been possible sightings on the Clepington Road and an area around the Dighty Burn.

“The images of the bikes have been shared multiple times online, so whoever has them would be incredibly silly to be out riding them.

“The police haven’t advised us of any new developments in the search.

“I’m obviously still i ncredibly angry. If these bikes aren’t found that will probably be it with regards to motocross.

“We’ve essentially spent £6,500 each on bikes for someone else to ride them.

“If anyone has any information, I would urge them to get in contact.”

People with information can contact Bryan via social media.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are continuing.”
