SAINTS STILL WANT ANOTHER DEFENDER

-

ST JOHNSTONE are still on the lookout for another defender.

With Tam Scobbie gone to Dundee United and Brian Easton struggling with a knee i n j u r y, m a n a g e r Tommy Wright is keen to add a left-sided back-four player.

He said: “I really think we need to get a defender in. There is no questioning the ability of the young defenders we have at the club but we need a natural left-back.

“I know Richard Foster can switch from the right to play there but that means playing four right-footed defenders and I’m not keen on that.

“We have Scott Tanser in for the week to have a look at him.”

Tanser was most recently with Rochdale and Port Vale.

Ex-Kilmarnock and St Mirren wide-man James Dayton is still on trial, with Wright set to make up his mind on him sooner rather than l ater. He was with Cheltenham Town last term.

“I am not anticipating anyone other than maybe a left-back coming in before our first Europa League game against FK Trakai next Thursday,” Tommy added.

“We have a list of registered players in with Uefa but we can make one change before next week.

“Dayton has done well and you can see the quality he has.

“The likelihood is that I will make a decision on him towards the end of this week.”
