Utd boss targets ‘strong’ signings

-

RAY McKinnon is targeting “strong characters” as he looks to build a Dundee United squad capable of winning promotion to the Premiership this summer.

Already this week he’s unveiled new signings Tam Scobbie, James Keatings and Billy King, as well as sealing new contracts for Stewart Murdoch and Willo Flood.

And the Tangerines boss is working hard to bring in more players with a similar mentality.

He said: “The signings we have already brought to the club and the players I am currently pursuing are all strong characters alongside their ability.

“It was important we kept hold of players like Willo, who already brought a strong mentality to the dressing-room.

“It will be important that I know every player can impact the game when called upon and, with Willo, I know that to be the case.

“His ability is there for everyone to see but he has shown time and again his leadership and work ethic are right up there and were important for the decision to offer him another year.”

The 32-year-old was a major part of United’s last campaign as they got within 90 minutes of achieving promotion only to be beaten in the play-off final. And he’s determined to go one step further this time around.

Flood said: “I enjoy being a United player and I am determined to get this club into the Premiership. I am happy to have signed a new contract and now want to focus on ensuring promotion this year.”
