Graduation crash: man, 25, charged
A TAXI driver has been charged with careless driving after three people were left hospitalised.
Police have confirmed that a 25-yearold man has been charged after the incident in Nethergate just before 6.15pm yesterday.
Three people were taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness says as many as six police cars and three ambulances were on the scene, which was particularly busy with Dundee University graduates.
Graduate Kenneth Chikezie was one of those left hospitalised after allegedly being struck by the car.
Two other people were also taken to hospital.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said today: “We can confirm that a 25-year-old male has been charged with careless driving in relation to an incident in Nethergate yesterday.”
Sales executive Jade Cuthbert, 27, witnessed the immediate aftermath of the incident.
She said: “There were six police cars and three ambulances at the scene.
“I had just came out of the Overgate Shopping Centre just before 6.30pm when I saw a taxi. “There were a number of police officers on the scene and one guy had on an oxygen mask.
“He looked like he had an injury to his arm.
“People at the scene said the injured man had just graduated from university yesterday afternoon.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 6.13pm on Thursday, June 22 to attend a road traffic collision on Nethergate.
“We dispatched two ambulances and a paramedic response unit to the scene.
“Three patients were Ninewells Hospital.”
