Tesco jobs ‘welcome news for Dundee’

-

DUNDEE West MP Chris Law has welcomed news that Tesco will be creating a number of call centre jobs in the city.

The retail giant is looking to “simplify customer service operations” with a “single, expanded operation” in the City of Discovery.

The news came just 24 hours after Lloyd’s Banking Group announced plans to shed 252 jobs at the Bank of Scotland call centre.

Mr Law said: “In light of the disappointing news about job losses in the Bank of Scotland this is welcome news, particularly for the highly skilled people who are potentially facing redundancy. Dundee has been long established as having a fantastic reputation for its skilled call centre staff who play a vital part in the local economy.

“This obviously played a clear role in Tesco’s decision to expand in our city. Dundee continues to be an area good for business and long-term investment and we are currently enjoying significant regeneration and local growth throughout our city.”

Bank of Scotland workers were delivered the news of redundancies on Tuesday, as it moves its call centre to Dunfermline, with some staff to be offered transfers to the site in Fife.
