Plans for jute mill

MANY people will be sad to hear of plans to demolish one of Dundee’s most historic buildings (see page 9).

If these proposals go ahead, another part of the city’s past will disappear forever.

At the same time, the building has lain derelict for decades — and some would argue that it’s better that the land is used for something than not used at all.

But should these plans progress, the crucial thing is that the developers get the design of the building right. It would be a nice touch to pay homage to the jute mill that once stood there as part of that design.
