Stephen, Scott in major events
PERTH City Swim Club is raising its banner high again as club members Scott McLay and Stephen Milne take to the international stage once more.
Scott will celebrate his 18th birthday in Netanya next week as he represents GB at the European Junior Championships in Israel, where he competes in the 50m and 100m backstroke and freestyle events.
After a brief spell back in Perth to continue his training, he will fly out to compete for Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau from July 17-21 before representing his home club at the British Summer Meet in Sheffield.
With a chance of selection for this August’s World Junior Championships in Indianapolis and the possibility of the Commonwealth Games next year in Australia still on the table, Scott will be doing his utmost to do well.
Olympic silver medallist Stephen Milne will also be in action, heading out to the Trofeo Settecolli meet in Rome this weekend as part of the GB squad’s preparation for the upcoming World Championships.
Following a quick turnaround, he will be reunited with his club mates next week as a squad of 11 senior Perth City swimmers head to Aberdeen for the Scottish National Open Championships on June 29.
The Open Championships will be the second opportunity for Scotland’s swimmers to achieve a nomination time for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
