Keep the kids
Activities in city sure to be just the ticket for families
SCHOOL’S out for summer — and Dundee has a whole host of family events to keep the kids busy.
Tomorrow, the Armed Forces Parade comes to town — with military, cadet and veteran forces and the Army Reserve showcasing the past, present and future of Tayside’s forces family.
The event runs from 10am-3pm in City Square and along the Murraygate. The main parade takes place at 12.30pm.
Broughty Ferry Gala week kicks off its summer festivities in style with a fete extravaganza on Sunday from 1pm-5pm which takes place on Broughty Ferry Castle Green.
The event will feature live music, a barbeque, superheroes, Disney princesses, Minions and Transformers to entertain the kids, alongside the traditional array of games and stalls.
Throughout the week, the gala will play host to a variety of events and contests, including a sand sculpture competition on Monday and Thursday from 1pm-3pm on the Esplanade and a Disney princess and superhero sing-a-long on Tuesday from 2pm-3pm at St Stephen’s Church.
On Wednesday, the gala will hold an open air cinema event — Screen on the Green — showing Minions from 1pm and Transformers from 6pm.
The week then wraps up with Gala in the Garden at Barnhill Rock Garden, which promises live music, countryside ranger activities and a two-day car boot sale.
Running throughout the whole of the week is the window guessing competition, where kids will have to spot out-of-place objects in shops and traders all across the town.
Steve James, chairman of the Broughty Ferry Traders Association which supports the Gala, said: “We always like to mix it up and cater for all ages and families so it’s not like groundhog day.
“We’ll have lots of retro games like a buzz wire, and new acts on the main stage to mix things up.”
