A disappointing end for Blair stalwart

-

BLAIRGOWRIE had a disappointing season as they finished well down the table.

Their best cup result was a 5-1 home win against Luncarty.

Blair’s long-serving manager Billy Mackay stepped down and is to be succeeded by Mark Brash, who has been a stalwart in past seasons for the Berrypickers.

Scone Thistle finished in the top half of the table.

They had an excellent away win against Inverness Thistle in the first round of the Scottish Cup but fell to Super League side Penicuik in the next round.

They failed to make their mark in any of the other cups.

Arbroath Vics finished in the lower half of the table.

They had equallydisappointing results in the cup competitions.

Their only notable success came in the first round of the East of Scotland Cup when they beat Craigroyston away from home.

Newburgh endured a disappointing campaign.

Much work has been undertaken to spruce up East Shore Park but, unfortunately, that wasn’t matched by events on the park.

Indeed, they managed only two home wins and. with only one more on the road, finished fourth bottom.

That is an all-too-familiar scenario recently and resulted in manager Paul Martin’s dismissal just before the end of the season.

Entrusted with improving the club’s dismal record is Alan Fortune, a former player with the East Shore Park side.

He was previously a coach at St Andrews United.

Forfar Albion’s young side found themselves all too often on the wrong end of a drubbing.

But, hopefully, with a season under their belts and possibly one or two more experienced additions, they can make life a little more difficult for the opposition next season.
