End of an era for Harp at Beechie

-

IT was a nostalgic season for Harp, who ended their association with Beechwood Park after striking a deal with car dealer John Clark.

They will eventually move into a purpose-built new stadium but, until it is completed, will ground share with Violet.

On the playing front, manager Michael Gormley did reasonably well with limited resources, finishing in a mid-table position.

With a few additions next season, Gormley will be hoping they can make more of an impact.

The highlight of their season was reaching the quarter-finals of the GA Cup, though they lost out to Kirrie Thistle.

However, the other cups didn’t bring them much cheer.

They lost 6-0 at home to Musselburgh in the first round of the East of Scotland Cup while Maryhill beat them 5-3 at Beechwood in the Scottish Cup.

East Craigie finished in fifth with the highlight being a double-figure win over bottom of the table Forfar Albion.

They also reached the quarter-finals of the GA Cup before losing to Violet.

However, they went out in the first round of the other cups, losing to Luncarty in the East of Scotland Cup and to Bathgate in the Scottish.

The Shipbuilders have a formidable record at Craigie Park and, if they can improve on their away form, they should be among the contenders next season.
