Bogus workmen trick woman, 81

-

POLICE Scotland has appealed for information after a Dundee pensioner was targeted by bogus workmen.

The incident occurred in Old Glamis Road around 6.30pm on Friday when a man called at her door of an 81-year-old woman asking to do work on her garden.

A spokeswoman for the force said the man managed to talk his way into the house and distracted the lady while two other men entered with the intent to steal items.

A neighbour saw the events unfolding and managed to chase them away.

The first suspect who came to the door is described as being in his early fifties, about 5ft 8in, of stocky build and was wearing a navy jacket, light brown trousers and a checked cap. The second suspect is 6ft and wore a brown tweed jacket and cap.

These men spoke with English and Irish accents.

The third suspect wore a dark jacket with a hood.

The police spokeswoman said: “We would ask everyone to always be aware of persons coming around doors looking to do work but particularly if they try to get into your house for any reasons.

“If you are at all unsure of their intentions, ask them to leave and, if they are genuine, they should do so and leave a business card of some kind.”

Anyone with any information can contact Tayside Division on 101 quoting CR/16879/17 or speak to any police officer. Alternatively, information can also be passed on anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
