Traffic delays ahead
Three weeks of disruption expected amid roadworks
MOTORISTS face three weeks of delays as resurfacing works are carried out on a busy Dundee road.
Tayside Contracts is carrying out the works on behalf of Dundee City Council at Ancrum Road, which will be closed between Logie Street and Charleston Drive.
Today, residents said previous works in the area had been a “nightmare” and spoke of their concerns about the road closure’s impact on traffic.
William Miller, 78, a retired bus driver from Lochee, said: “Closing the whole street has disaster written all over it.
“The volume of traffic you see coming through here at peak times will cause chaos, because folk will either forget or won’t know the road is closed then get caught up in the diversions.
“The traffic has to go somewhere, so it’s going to build up. The schools are off, which may help, but you still have a lot of commuters going to work.”
Arlene Henderson, 59, a risk manager for NHS Tayside, who lives in Clovis Duveau Drive, said traffic going to and from Ninewells Hospital would suffer delays.
She said: “It’ll be a nightmare. There were roadworks at the other end of the street a few weeks ago, going into Menzieshill, and they caused a load of delays. Regardless of where they put the diversions, these cars will have to go somewhere. People will get confused and go up small streets, try to turn about and reverse and then there are huge hold-ups.
“What happens for people going to Ninewells? This road is a major route for people going there.”
Chloe Hain, 24, an admin assistant from Charleston, said: “It’s usually extremely busy about here in the mornings. There’s not really an easy way around this route. You’re talking going through Lochee and that will take an extra 20 minutes.”
A council spokeswoman said: “These works are part of an ongoing roads and footways maintenance programme across the city. Traffic diversions are in place and every effort is made to keep disruption to a minimum.”
