ROUND-UP Lichties, ’Shire continue their superb shows

-

ARBROATH and Forfarshire continued their good run of form in the CSL Eastern Premier Division, while Glenrothes were involved in an exciting tie against Carlton at Grange Loan.

The Lichties cemented their position at the top of the table after a 128-run win over bottom club Falkland.

A good batting performance from Arbroath saw them rack up 302 all out with Hamish Laing top scoring with 67.

For Falkland, youngster Callum Watson produced a fine display with the ball taking 5-50 in his spell.

This total was always too much for the Fifers, who were dismissed for 174 with Hasha Coorey scoring a half-century.

At Mannofield, Forfarshire produced a fine run chase to get the better of Aberdeenshire.

Batting first, the Dons got off to a flyer with Chris Venske (71) and Lionel Ngope (94) getting them off to a quick start.

However, some disciplined bowling by the visitors saw them pull it back later in the innings as Aberdeen were restricted to 234-7.

In reply, half-centuries from Matty Parker and Umair Mohammed saw Forfarshire on track before a late collapse saw them in a spot of bother before vice-captain Scott Cameron produced a mature knock of 41 not out to see his side home with three wickets to spare.

The Carlton-Glenrothes game was restricted to 39 overs after rain had left the wicket damp.

Glens mustered 159-9 with Saffy Sharif top scoring with 54 in a nail-biting finish.

Carlton needed four runs off the final over but could muster only three as a runout off the last ball saw the game finish in a tie.

The final two games in the division saw wins for Grange over Heriot’s and Watsonians over SMRH.

In the Western Premier Division, Prestwick and Ayr remain in charge at the top with only 1% separating the pair after they both had easy wins.

Prestwick’s total of 136-5 didn’t look too impressive but Kelburne’s batting woes continued after they were shot out for only 49 with Shavi Chaudry securing a six-wicket haul while costing only four runs.

Ayr easily chased down the 215 all out of Dumfries with Neil Smith and Michael Papps both scoring 90 plus.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Clydesdale over East Kilbride and Greenock over Uddindston.

The Western Championship saw only three games beat the rain with l eaders West of Scotland suffering a surprise defeat against Glasgow Accies, Stirling getting the better of Drumpellier and Renfrew running out winners against St Michael’s.

THE West Indies could yet salvage a draw in their one-day series against India following a thrilling 11-run win in the fourth international in Antigua.

India appeared on course for a third-straight win after restricting their hosts to 189-9 but the West Indies fought back to bowl the tourists out for 178 and they now trail 2-1 in the five-match series.

West Indies pace bowler and skipper Jason Holder took 5-27 as India lost their last four wickets for 19 runs.
