Striker Davies on the move in Perth

-

JEANFIELD were just a step away from being relegated last season.

One of the main reasons for being in that precarious position was their failure to put away chances.

However, Swifts have gone out of their way to rectify the problem as they have signed two noted strikers, who were both their previous team’s leading scorers last season.

They are Rhys Davies, who has joined them from Kinnoull, and Fraser Mills from Scone Thistle.

Also joining Swifts are midfielder Lewis Mackie from Kinnoull and attacking midfielder Gary Fergus from Scone Thistle.

Central defender Ben Blyth has been recruited from a Letham Amateurs outfit which swept all before them last season.

Leaving the Riverside Stadium is midfielder Fraser Smith, who has joined Broughty Athletic.

Swifts’ leading scorer last season was Robbie Holden. He is now to combine playing with a coaching role in the coming season.

The Perth men have arranged four frendlies, the first three of which are away from home.

They meet Blairgowrie on Thursday, July 20, followed by Banks O’ Dee on Saturday, July 22, and Montrose Roselea on Wednesday, July 26. Swifts will then face Kirkintilloch Rob Roy at Riverside Stadium on Saturday, July 29.

New Newburgh boss Alan Fortune has made a swift start with three signings as he tries to revive the East Shore Park fortunes.

And he was delighted to make his first capture Stuart Fowler, a striker, who he rates highly, having previously played for Raith Rovers, Cowdenbeath and Kennoway.

Fortune’s squad building continued with the acquisition of Josh Wilson, who has been on his radar since taking over at the end of last season.

Wilson started his football apprenticeship with the highly-successful Woodside youth football club and, since leaving youth football, has played with Cowdenbeath, Oakley and Glenrothes.

Fortune’s his third signing is Ryan Brocklebank, who he predicts will be a big player for them next term.

Brocklebank played pro-youth with Dundee and has also had junior experience with St Andrews.
