Robbo windfall is back on the cards
DUNDEE United’s hopes of a big windfall from the sale of former star Andy Robertson have been boosted.
Scotland international Robertson has been expected to move since Hull City were relegated from the Premier League in May.
But as teams down south start heading back to pre-season, the 23-year-old has remained a City player.
That, though, could change as early as this week with Merseyside giants Liverpool linked with him once again.
They were expected to move early but with Robertson stating just before the Scotland-England game last month he would not make a decision on his future, they began looking elsewhere.
That opened the way for Burnley, who tried to sign him in the January transfer window, to lodge an £8 million bid and it’s understood that’s been accepted.
Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven have also been showing and interest but are unwilling to match that price for a player who only has one year of his contract remaining.
And now it looks like Liverpool are about to come in, though they could face competition from their former boss Rafa Benitez at newly-promoted Newcastle.
If Robertson does go, a sell-on clause would see United pick up somewhere between 10 and 15 per cent of the fee, though the near £3 million Hull paid for him in 2014 will be deducted before the final figure is worked out.
That would still see in excess of £500,000 coming United’s way.
The current squad were today completing their preparations for tomorrow’s opening friendly, against Montrose at Links Park.
