Knives man jailed for 12 months

-

A MAN who confronted police officers with a seven-inch knife moments after he had approached a neighbour with another blade has been jailed for 12 months.

Two officers were at Rory McPhee’s home attempting to resolve a dispute when he went into the kitchen and returned with the weapon in his hand and lifted it in the air.

CS spray was used on McPhee before the officers disarmed and arrested him, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.

McPhee had earlier that day been involved in an argument with a former partner over retrieving items from a house.

When McPhee confronted a passenger in her car, a neighbour intervened and began shouting at him from his window.

An argument developed and McPhee went into his house and returned a short time later with a case containing a knife. He then removed the knife from the case and approached the neighbour’s window before returning inside.

Police were called to the scene and found McPhee shouting in the street, the court was told. They calmed him down and retrieved that knife, only for McPhee to confront them with another blade.

McPhee, 57, of Glenmoy Terrace, Forfar, admitted having a knife in a public place at Glenmoy Terrace on August 4. He also admitted a separate charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and acting in a threatening manner towards someone and attempting to enter a vehicle they were in, at the same location and on the same date.
