Another fine medal haul

-

PERTH City Swim Club’s National age group performers celebrated the end of another successful season with a clutch of medals at the Scottish Summer Meet in Edinburgh.

In the boys 12-13 years age group, Jamie McGregor brought home an impressive haul — gold in the 200 metres butterfly, silver in the 1.500 metres freestyle and bronze in the 400 metres freestyle.

Following on from his busy schedule at the Scottish Open, Tom Jeffers won silver in the men’s 17-18 years 1,500 metres freestyle, while butterfly specialist Freya Thomson showed her strength in the women’s 16 years category, being second in the 100 metres final.

Perth City head coach, Ann Dickson, was pleased with her team’s results, stating: “Age group competition is never plain sailing.

“Just as the demands of schoolwork kick in, the physical changes that take place due to growth patterns can lead to dips in performance.

“It’s about finding the right balance between managing challenges.”

Jack Muncey, Luke Mitchell, and European Junior medallist Scott McLay now make the trip to Sheffield to compete against the cream of British Age Group competitors.

Scott will fly back from the Commonwealth Youth Games i n the Bahamas and travel to Sheffield to conclude a gruelling end-of-season competitive schedule. With the 50 and 100 metres freestyle, 50 metres butterfly, 50 and 100 metres backstroke and the 4x100 metre freestyle, 4x200 metre freestyle and 4x100 metre medley team events in the Bahamas behind him, Scott will be chasing selection for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia at the English meet, which begins on July 25.
