Nearly £2,000 raised at match in aid of Eddie Wolecki-Black

- BY WILL LYON

Eddie Wolecki-Black, 52, was managing Airdrie United last year when he suffered two brain haemorrhages.

The former Dundee United and Lochee United coach has since struggled with his mobility and a fundraising match took place yesterday, with proceeds going towards pioneering treatment costing £10,000 the dad-ofseven is hoping to have in Florida.

Retired Scottish football stars took part in the match at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium against ladies’ team Glasgow City, managed by Eddie — the same team he was in charge of between 2011 and 2015. The event raised £1,925.

Eddie said it was great to be back in the dugout again — although he had a number of dilemmas over the starting line-up.

He said: “The match had been planned for a couple of months so I had a lot of time to think about the line-up and it changed about three or four times.

“The game went very well and finished in a draw which was a fair result.

“I would like to thank all who attended and the players of both teams.”

Eddie hopes to be able to do it again soon as plans are underway for a squad of former Dundee and Dundee United players to take on Lochee United next month.

Overall, Eddie has been overwhelmed by all the support he has received from across Scottish football.

He said: “I’ve had great support from people I’ve been associated with over the years.

“The support of a vast number of people who have been in the opposite dugout to me is really humbling.”

ALMOST £2,000 has been raised following a benefit match in aid of a Dundeeborn football coach.
