- BY EXTRA COVER

Forfarshire and Arbroath were among the teams in action but both lost.

At Mckay’s Forthill, Forfarshire won the toss and bowled in a game which was reduced to 40 overs a side against second-placed Grange.

Ryan Flannigan (41) and Dylan Budge (47) helped the Edinburgh side to 174-8 in their innings.

In reply, the visiting club’s professional, James Tapper, bowled a fine spell taking 4-23.

When the vital wicket of Craig Wallace fell after he scored 30, the Grange attack cleaned up the Forfarshire tail to dismiss them for 138 with Nick Farrar also claiming four victims.

That result saw the gap at the top reduced as Arbroath suffered a surprise home defeat at the hands of Aberdeenshire.

Ross McLean and Hayden Laing both scored 39 for the Lichties but they received little support as they slipped to 150 all out with Chris Venske taking 4-25.

The Dons professional , Lionel Ngeope, then scored a vital 44 as they eased home with four wickets to spare.

Glenrothes continued their fine form with an easy win over SMRH at Gilvenbank.

In difficult batting conditions, Fred Culley scored a patient 48 in the Glens total of 161 all out.

This proved far too many for the visitors who slumped to 94 all out with Yasar Arafat and Chris Mohale both taking three wickets .

In an Edinburgh derby, Heriot’s came out on top against Watsonians.

Peter Ross (80 not out) and Hayes van der Berg (50) helped Heriots to 242-7 at tea before dismissing Watsonians for 174.

The only game to finish in the West saw St Michael’s defeat Weirs with Craig Brockwell producing a fine all-round performance.

He took five wickets as Weirs were dismissed for 108 before scoring 59 as his team sped to victory.

In yesterday’s Strathmore and Perthshire Union T20 finals day at Dooco’t Park, Forfarshire 2nd X1 won the Three Counties Cup after defeating Mannofield in the final.

Their total of 116 looked catchable but, in a tight finish, the Dundee side held their nerve to win by three runs.

The Two Counties Cup was won by Perth Doo’cot who saw off the Stoneywood Dyce development team.

ONLY five National League games beat the rain on Saturday, four in the Eastern Premier and one in the Western Championship.
